We’re back! A day late, but perhaps not quite a dollar short. I’m not a father just yet, but that’s likely to change by the end of the week, so your patience and understanding with this and any further publishing delays is appreciated.
This week’s 5 things are perhaps a little more dialed in than last. As my thoughts around what these posts should be coalesce I’ll continue to play with content, but I’m feeling good about the format. Something to watch (that’s likely automotive related), something musical, something to read, a life enhancing product and a “wearable” item that might be clothing, footwear or an accessory depending on the week.
Short, sweet, substantive. That’s what I’m going for, let me know if you think I’m on point or coming up short.
As always, thanks for giving this experiment your valuable attention.
Enjoy! -AM
1.) Chris Harris on Cars: A love letter to the Porsche 959 - The best in the business gives the iconic Porsche supercar a proper go, while also explaining why it’s still misunderstood.
2.) Time, Tension, and the future of the world in America’s Heartland - The latest dispatch from friend-of-the-program Sinuhe Xavier is a beautiful ode to Montana and a thought provoking piece about America’s empty spaces.
3.) Sonos Roam 2 x Sony PS-LX310BT turntable - The most affordable method of bringing vinyl to a whole home audio system in true HiFi. If you’re not already in the Sonos universe any bluetooth streaming setup audio system works, but I’m too far down the Sonos rabbit hole to turn back now. Just pair the turntable with the Roam 2 via bluetooth and then group into the rest of the system, boom, vinyl in every room.
4.) “South of Here”, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats - Despite having been a fan of the band for many years I missed the release of their latest album in June of last year. Having gone on a nice sonic journey with it in the car, I’ve already ordered the vinyl.
5.) Nicks Boots x Heat Straps Leather Patriot Type III Jacket - Level 10 workwear and bootmaker collab alert here folks. If you care about “capital Q” quality and things like lifetime guarantees, then you’re likely already familiar with the Spokane based outfit Nicks Boots and New Jersey based Heat Straps as well. If not, this should be a hell of an introduction to both. Part of a 3 item capsule that also includes the “Ranchman” and “Patriot Type 1”, the Type III trucker in 3oz roughout suede is a piece that’ll serve you well for years to come. Come to think of it, it’ll probably serve someone else well after you’re gone too. Can’t put a price on handmade future heirloom pieces like this, but if I had to, $1,000 sounds about right.
