INNESS, a lush and expansive property where things hide in plain sight.

For the first time in many years, I’m not surprised it’s August. In years past while I was living in LA I’d maybe get a week or so of time on the East Coast, it would truly feel like summer, and then I’d go back to the perpetually predictable weather of Southern California where time is a flat circle. This past July however was full of food, friends and family, which is about as good as summer gets if you ask me. The time flew by, but every moment was memorable.

Megan and I started in coastal Connecticut, headed to the Hudson Valley, onto Vermont and then back to Connecticut. A few quick drop-ins to Manhattan reminded us both how great The City can be even when it’s oppressively hot and how quickly it can sap all energy from you too. No surprise that for nearly two hundred years people have sought relief, as we did, on Long Island even if just for a day.

I enjoyed finally driving the full length of the Merritt Parkway en route to an unplanned, yet very pleasant, overnight in Portsmouth, NH, before continuing on up to Maine for a few days. If you missed last week’s post about Maine, you can dig into it here. Leaving Maine on a real 10/10 day was hard, but we were bound for Boston to check out the newly renovated Four Seasons Hotel across from Boston Commons and catch a Red Sox/Yankees game, which turned out to be one of the best I’ve ever seen with the Sox coming from behind in the 8th inning and going on to close out the win.

Finally we ferried out to Martha’s Vineyard and caught some of the best weather of the whole month while enjoying some much needed quiet time on a windswept beach. For a trip that was full of last minute plans the whole thing honestly went off with barely a hitch. More than once I remarked “this is even better than what I had in mind” and if that isn’t the hallmark of time well spent, I don’t know what is. Below you’ll find a selection of the places that stood out and we hope to return to again just as soon as we can.

Enjoy,

-Andrew
