One does not simply pop-up to Maine in the summer. At least that’s what I understood based on childhood experiences and it seems to be a generally shared sentiment by residents of the Northeast as well. From to June to September entering “Vacationland” for the express purpose of oceanside relaxation is supposed to take months of planning, research, and careful consideration.
Historically I’m sure that’s true given Maine’s popularity, especially the southern beach region. From accommodations to day-trip destinations planning well in advance has been the rule of thumb. However, if you’re willing to be a little flexible with your itinerary there’s no reason why you can’t head up to one of the most beautiful states in the nation on a whim, even during the peak of high season.
